Senso-ji Temple
Tokyo
temple
Founded in 628 AD, Senso-ji is Tokyo's oldest and most significant Buddhist temple. The iconic Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) with its giant red lantern leads to the Nakamise-dori, a lively street lined with traditional craft shops. The main hall enshrines a golden image of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, and the surrounding Asakusa district retains an old Edo atmosphere.
