Todai-ji (Eastern Great Temple) is a Buddhist temple complex in Nara. The temple's Great Buddha Hall (Daibutsuden) is the world's largest wooden building. It houses Vairocana, one of the largest bronze statues of the Buddha in Japan, standing 15 metres tall. The temple grounds are home to hundreds of freely roaming sika deer, considered sacred messengers.
